Cookies and Captain Bun Piggies

The pictures of the haircuts didn't really come out, so I've got to try again. In the meantime, the girls have been cookie making machines. We've been doing the basic Joy of Cooking recipe for chocolate chip cookies, but we add oats and use wheat flour instead of white.

With shorter hair, this is Kenzie's new favorite style for when she goes to dance lessons. Apparently she considers them and cross between pigtails and a bun as her response to my query about the new hairstyle was "they're bun piggies."

A General's Prayer

A prayer from Jeus's General.

Lord, please bless the State Security Apparatus, that it might conduct
it's wiretaps to the best of its abilities. Provide Our Leader with the ability
to look into our bedrooms, so that He might catch French politicians putting
their little soldiers in ladies' mouths and watch celebrities doing it. And
Lord, let him share those videos with godly men like myself, who may then rail
against these evils from our pulpits.

And bless our interrogators and their glowsticks and electrified nipple
clamps of freedom. Provide them with the ability to induce pain as close as
possible to that experienced during organ failure without quite equaling it.And
give us the ability to kill brown people more efficiently, so that our
contractors may garner more fruit from their labor.

Amen

Slackers

Man, I get lazy for one week and no one updates the blog. The last couple days here are colder than a witches nipple. I need to post some pics of the girls as they just got their hair chopped short. Casey's getting wavy hair, but Kenzie's remains identical to Jen's, poker straight.

In the meantime, let's all reflect on The BEAST 50 Most Loathsome People in America, 2005.

goodbye little buddy

they went in through my bellybutton and those other two marks. no stitches! just some good ol super glue. but they pumped my stomach full of air so while the rest of my body has dropped fifteen pounds in the last week and half, my gut looks like i am in the early stages of a pregnancy. cute on a little kid, not so much on an adult. good bye mr. appendix, we had some good times together. it is a shame things had to end this way.

Say hello to my little friend

In honor of Dianne getting her appendix out, let's see a couple pics of our meaty little friend. The two pics on the right are ones that perforated after infection, which given the severity of Dianne's symptoms is what I'm assuming happened.

Not enough meat for a gyro, but perhaps a soft taco.

Drunk

Has anyone seen Bush much this week? Jen and I caught him on C-Span a couple times, and man is he looking weird. And he's got yet another cut on his face. He looks completely drunk. I ran across a pretty good take on this here, excerpt below. Read the whole thing if you're so inclined.

"Grown up people don't show up for work, Monday morning, all bloodied and bruised--what is this guy? In Fight Club? Grown-up people don't say "peeance, freeance" in public and not even notice that they just said it. Grown up people don't disappear and retreat into seclusion at times of stress. Only to reappear with, again, bruises, contusions, and lacerations on their faces."

"You know who does?"

"Hardcore, falling down, howling alcoholics."

Compfused.com

I highly recommend the new link at the left, Compfused.com.

It's a good source for such classic clips as "dog born without front legs." That dog is awesome. I think it's safe to say we'd all chop off a dog's front legs just to have a dog as cool as that.

Christmas in Utah

Pre-Christmas was of course decorating trees and cookies.

Here's the girlies on Christmas morning. If you look closely you can see Kenzie's holding the March of the Penguins DVD Grandma Swift ordered them. And now Kenzie is holding up one of the controllers for their Xbox.

Update:

Here's a couple more I liked. A rare shot of Casey not pulling some stoned expression, and Kenzie with her bird book. Kenzie's been nuts about birds. This year she's acquired a couple bird books, and carries them everywhere she goes in this little knapsack. They hung a couple birdfeeders in the back yard with Grandpa Swift over Thanksgiving, and every day watch the juncos and chickadees.

Layout

I'm experimenting with the layout in the interests of readability. I aligned the link bar to the left rather than the right, and expanded the width of main column to take advantage of the unused margin space. The total width of the page is now 900 pixels. I figured everyone's resolution was at least 1000 pixels wide or higher, but if your desktop resolution is set to a lower one like 800x600, the column isn't going to fit on the page.

So is this easier to read? Harder to read? Is it too wide for anyone?

UPDATE: I messed with the colors as well. Between work, home, etc., I spend a lot of time on computers, and that yellow background was burning my retina. The blues are easier on my eyes. Is this the case with you guys as well, or is it hard to see?
